HOW WE SELL YOUR STORY

1 – YOU TELL US YOUR STORY IN CONFIDENCE

Whether you want to appear in a newspaper or magazine to inspire others, promote a cause or simply because you want to sell your story then the first thing you need to do is get in touch with Feature Factory.

We will then call you to talk through your story and get an idea of which publications would suit you.

Remember, the chat is off the record and totally confidential. For your peace of mind we guarantee no information will ever be published without your consent.

2 – WE WILL THEN SECURE YOU A NEWSPAPER OR MAGAZINE DEAL

With unrivalled contacts on the features and news desks across the UK, we then start working on getting you the best deal for your story.

So, after asking you to sign a Feature Factory contract confirming we are acting as your sole media agents, we will then package up your story to make it as attractive as possible to potential buyers and ask them to bid for the exclusive rights.

It is extremely important that you are happy with the publication that then buys your story and again, we will not enter into any agreements with a title without your consent.

Sometimes it is possible to sell your story to up to three publications as we can obtain offers for first, second and third rights, meaning you get paid three times!

We also have well established contacts in the radio and TV industry at home and abroad with many of our clients going on to appear on ITV's This Morning or even star in their own documentary.

3 – GETTING OUR FACTS STRAIGHT

This is as important to us as it is to you. Real-life stories are always personal accounts and we understand that in some cases it can be embarrassing or upsetting to relive your ordeal.

For this reason we like to do a full interview in an environment that you are comfortable with. We will happily call at your home and talk over coffee or if privacy is an issue we will happily arrange something more private. If a face-to-face interview isn't possible we will speak to you about your story on the telephone. We're only human too and always promise to handle your interview respectfully and sensitively.

For peace of mind the feature writer that visits you will always record the interview on a dictaphone and also make written notes. Don't be alarmed! This is to ensure we get our facts straight when we come to writing your story and also to reassure you that we will not misquote you.

At this point you may also be required to star in your very own photoshoot. As daunting as this may at first sound, we've yet to find someone who hasn't loved it in the end!

We will then get to work writing your story in the appropriate style of the publication we have arranged your deal with – but not before reading it back to you to make sure you are happy and to give you the opportunity to make any changes.

4 – MONEY

Before supplying your story to the contracted publication, we will have entered into a contract with them confirming your payment. This usually takes approximately six weeks to arrive and will be sent to you via us as soon as it is received.
At no point will Feature Factory charge you for our service. We are paid directly by the publication.
